A customer sent us his engine to tear it down and help him diagnose what was going on after he found out that the number 8 cylinder was reading almost 0 compression. This engine has been running strong for quite a few years as it has some very high quality components in it. The engine had been previously Dyno tested at 1120 HP and 1950 lb ft of torque. Needless to say but this engine had been pushed to its limits for a while. Upon teardown we noticed that there was more play than usual between the cylinders and the cylinder walls. After tearing out the number 8 piston we quickly realized why. The Mahle Forged and coated piston had a significant chunk taken out of the side, this is what caused the low compression.
