Installation Instructions:
So we all have experienced the clunking sound and bumpy feel on undulations or turns in our steering shaft. Once you diagnose the issue and you determine it is the steering shaft and or bearing replacing the parts with the genuine shaft or the updated bearing.
For the install you will need:
- 15mm Socket and Ratchet
- Sandpaper and/or Buffing wheel
- optionally a steering wheel lock or strap to make sure when you remove the unit that you don't get the clocking of the steering wheel off.
Step 2: Locate the 15mm bolt behind the driver fender well in the engine bay and remove.
Step 3: Locate and remove the 15mm bolt to be removed under the dash on the column
Step 4: Remove the steering shaft
Step 5: remove the old collar from upper shaft, this is where you want to make sure you do not clock the bearing.
Tip: May be necessary to sand and smooth some of the upper shaft end to prevent premature wear on the new bearing.
Step 6: Install the new bearing with the two tangs lined up in the slot
Step 7: Install the new steering shaft
Step 8: Slide lower shaft in place in the engine bay and re-install the 15mm nut and bolt
Step 9: Re-install the 15mm nut in the upper shaft
At this point the install is done and unsecure the steering wheel if need be and enjoy the smooth steering!
